I'm a person who used to own hundrets and hundrets of MP3 songs and a little over 800 CD's full of movies that I never really bought. After reading 1 Peter 2:13-25 God conviced me that all this illegal stuff was not benefitial for a holy life. Without looking back I threw away about 850 CD's and deleted pretty much all MP3's I had on my harddisk - and we are talking about gigabytes of MP3's!
However, there is something like "legal" MP3's, for example those recorded off the radio or DJ mixes as well as MP3's an artist has declared freely distributable. Some churches also paid the copyright fee and thus are eligible to offer them on their website for free download. I highly appreciate this kind of service, because it makes the download of those very songs legal and thus my conscieousness is clear. And though I know of some of these churches that they really do pay big bucks to be allowed to distribute those MP3's, I was wondering about whether or not -ALL- of these churches have done so or not?
How do I, as a Christian who wants to submit to the laws given by our government, deal with this issue? Do I just simply download the music and not worry about it?
I found a church website that has round about 370 songs *!!!* for free download, all performed by either their worship band, their choir or their youth choir. They have different laws about copying music in Canada, though, thus my question: Is it "legal" to download their music, since it's on the internet?PS: other sources of free MP3 worship music are also available, but not quite as plentiful in the amount of songs offered. Rather questionable sources have an abundance of all the MP3 songs I could possibly ask for, but their origin seems a little too questionable to be considered legal.

Ich weiß noch net so richtig, was ich von mp3's von CD's halten soll, die ich mir kopiert habe. Kommen die mp3's von einer Originalcd ohne Kopierschutz, ist es ja in Deutschland höchst legal, bis zu 7 kostenlose Kopien an Freunde und Bekannte (ja, sogar Arbeitskollegen) weiterzugeben. Stand erst vor einem Monat wieder in der aktuellen Stiftung Warentest Zeitung. Und an diesen Grundsatz habe ich mich immer gehalten. Ich seh das nicht als stehlen an. Es wäre illegal und Diebstahl, wenn es der Staat verbieten würde.
Mit Filmen ist das was ganz anderes. Die dürfen nicht kopiert werden und dementsprechend habe ich nur Originalfilm-DVD's in meinem Besitz.

hi tom! :) coole sache! danke! doch doch, ich lese schon deinen blog, aber damals war ich eher auf der suche nach klassischen liedern, die hier auch gesungen werden ;) talentierte künstler sind immer gut, aber die herkömmlichen worship lieder findet man selten auf diesen seiten :)
ich werd aber auf jeden fall mal dort vorbei schauen! thx! :)
